read speeds from optical media are….so slow. moving the noisy external disc drive from my desk to the server was definitely a good move lmao https://t.co/IY9or2MSx6
For now though: it works for watching with 1 or 2 people without issue. Even though my xeons don’t have media extensions surely to god with 32 cores it can manage real time transcoding of 1080p.
I need to get the GPU plugged in and working properly - it’s AMD though so I’m not sure if plex will use it for hardware acceleration or not. I hope so. I also forgot to plug in the case USB headers to the expansion card I had. Would also like to get an internal blu ray drive.
regardless: shopping for gifts for me is easy now - just get me physical copies of media that I can archive digitally. long distance movie nights are significantly easier too. I do need to fix some things though.
for series I need to work on my file organization a bit. for example kaguya has one season where a single episode is split into multiple files and that’s why it has an obscenely high episode count. Violet evergarden has two files which are the two discs the series came on. https://t.co/SqIOuQLqAR
running a plex media server has been a great decision on my part it’s a fun little hobby project now. https://t.co/0BPMkx6Izp
i did succeed in my original goal which was actually just being able to run makemkv on my server with a GUI but on my desktop without having to set up a full desktop environment. saves me from having to copy the files over network after waiting three years for the ripping process https://t.co/AB6XIlRgHF
the link to a windows build of pulse audio server is broken and i will be an air conditioner in hell before i build anything for windows so progress on this project is paused for now.
well playing a video didn’t work because it couldn’t find an audio device so note to self x11 does not include audio
🤔can x11 forwarding work for playing video games where the client provides the GPU and the host provides the CPU? I genuinely don’t know but I want to find out.
